The Truth About Facial Waxing – 4 Myths Busted

If you’re among the 1 in 20 women that struggle with unwanted facial hair you’ve probably tried countless ways to remove it or reduce its appearance. In your quest for smoother skin, you have likely heard a lot of well-meaning but inaccurate advice about some removal methods. One method that often gets a bad rap is facial waxing. Today, we are here to tell you the truth about salon facial waxing and bust some common myths about this safe and effective beauty treatment.

Myth #1- Waxing stretches skin causing it to sag and wrinkle.

Fact- Waxing regularly can actually help improve the texture and elasticity of your skin. Skin is held taut during waxing, so there is no danger of it stretching. What does happen is the removal of the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin along with the wax. This exfoliation helps to stimulate the production of collagen that prevents sagging and wrinkles, not causes them.

Myth #2- Waxing is always torturously painful.

Fact- There is no denying that waxing comes with a certain level of discomfort. (Most removal methods do.) After all, you are pulling your hair out by the roots. A little pain is to be expected, but the stories you have heard are greatly exaggerated. Our estheticians possess the skills and are well trained in techniques to make your waxing session as comfortable as possible with minimal pain. And when you wax regulaPreviewrly the hair follicle weakens making hair easier to remove and waxing less uncomfortable as time goes on.

Myth #3- Removing hair makes it grow back thicker.

Fact- Typically the opposite is true for waxing. Each time you wax, your hair’s root is pulled from the hair follicle causing a little damage.  As was mentioned above, repeated waxing weakens the follicles which can cause the hair to grow back noticeably thinner and more sparse over time for the majority of people. At the very least your hair will regrow exactly as it was, but never thicker.

Myth #4- You have to allow hair to grow long to wax again.

Fact- Hair only needs to be about ¼ inch long for the wax to be able to grab onto it, which is barely noticeable, if at all. Letting too much time pass between sessions can actually make it harder to remove. Waxing once per month is a pretty good schedule to keep, though it can be adjusted based on your personal hair growth pattern.
